Tim Jackson on The Care Economy – a meeting for policy advisors, professionals in the public domain, and academics
Utrecht (Universiteitsmuseum), Tuesday 23 September, 10.00-12.00
Care is the foundation of organic life. But its fate in the economy is precarious and uncertain. In our hearts it’s honoured as an irreducible good. But in the market it is treated as a second-class citizen — barely recognized in the relentless rush for productivity and wealth. How did we arrive in this dysfunctional place? And what can we do to change this? In his most recent book, The Care Economy, Tim Jackson, professor in ecological economics at the University of Surrey and director of the Center for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity, has set out to tackle these questions.
Tim Jackson will open this event with a keynote talk in which he will share the main insights from his book. This will be followed by a discussion, which will be opened by Jodine Smits, senior researcher at the Raad voor Volksgezondheid en Samenleving. Ingrid Robeyns, Professor in Ethics of Institutions at Utrecht University, will chair the discussion.
Venue: Universiteitsmuseum Utrecht, Lange Nieuwstraat 106, 3512 PN Utrecht (Bovenzaal).
Timing: arrival with coffee/tea from 9.30 onwards. The talk will start at 10.00 sharp.
The event is aimed at scholars as well as policy advisors and other professionals working in the public domain. Slots are limited, so if you would like to register to attend the meeting, please do so by September 21st, by filling out this registration form: https://forms.office.com/e/phSFrEmTq6
